Wat Khmer Monirattanaram (វត្តខ្មែរមុនីរតនារាម) is a Khmer Buddhist temple at 243 Norton Street in Pontiac, Michigan.[1] It is incorporated as Wat Khmer Monirattanaram Buddhist Temple, Inc.[1] The Southeastern Michigan Cambodian Association lists the same address and contact details and holds its Khmer classes at the temple.[2][3]

Names

Directories of Khmer temples in the United States spell the name Wat Muniratanaram (វត្តមុនីរតនារាម). It is a different temple from Wat Muniratanaram in Nashville, Tennessee.[4][5]

History

The temple appeared in a 2014 directory of Khmer Buddhist temples as Wat Muniratanaram, at 243 Norton Avenue, Pontiac. The 2026 edition of a national temple directory lists it at 243 Norton Street.[4][5]

The nonprofit corporation, spelled Wat Khmer Monirattanaram Buddist Temple in IRS records, was established in 2023. It is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization, classified as Buddhist, and its IRS listing gives a location in Eastpointe, Michigan. Donations to it are tax deductible.[6][7]

Religious life

The temple observes Pchum Ben, the Khmer festival that honors ancestors. For 2026 it announced a public Facebook Live broadcast of its Pchum Ben Day ceremony, from the evening of October 3 to the early afternoon of October 4.[1][8]

Community

The Southeastern Michigan Cambodian Association offers free Khmer language classes at the temple for all ages. The fall 2026 term meets on Sundays from September 13 to November 22, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.[3][9]

The temple lists Khmer, English, Thai and Lao as its languages.[1] It posts its events on its Facebook page.[1]
