This policy explains what information KhmerConnection collects, how it is used, and what choices you have.

Information collected

From readers. Server logs record your IP address, request time, requested page, referrer URL, and browser information.

From account holders. When you create an account, the wiki records your username, email address (if provided), a hashed password, and the IP address of account creation. While logged in, every edit records the page changed, timestamp, edit summary, before and after content, and your IP address.

What the wiki does not collect. Advertising or analytics trackers; payment information; precise geolocation; race, ethnicity, health, biometric, or other sensitive personal information. The wiki does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use automated decision-making with legal or significant effects.

How information is used

Information collected is used only to operate the wiki, attribute contributions, communicate with account holders, defend against abuse, and comply with law.

Designated administrators may access account IP addresses and user agents through the CheckUser tool. Each use is logged.

Public activity

Contributions are public and permanently attributed to your real name in page history. This includes text and files you add, discussion-page posts, and anything on your user page.

Cookies

The wiki uses functional cookies to keep you logged in and remember interface preferences. It does not set advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies of its own; embedded videos, described below, are the one place a third party can. Browser "Do Not Track" and "Global Privacy Control" signals do not change how the wiki processes your data, because it does not sell or share information for advertising.

Embedded videos

Some pages, such as podcast episodes, show videos from YouTube. The player loads when the page opens, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and episode lists show thumbnail images from YouTube. When a page with a video or thumbnail opens, your browser connects to YouTube, which receives your IP address and browser information and may store data in your browser, including when you play a video. YouTube's handling of that data is governed by Google's privacy policy. Pages without videos or thumbnails make no connection to YouTube.

Email

If you provide an email address, the wiki may use it for password resets, account-related messages, and notifications you opt into. It is not used for marketing and is not shared with other users unless you enable user-to-user email in your preferences.

Data retention

Server logs are retained only as long as needed for operations and abuse defense.

Public contribution history is retained indefinitely under the CC BY-SA license, which requires attribution to be preserved.

Encrypted server backups are retained for up to 90 days. Information deleted from the live wiki may persist in backups until it rolls off.

International transfers

The wiki is hosted in the United States. Using the wiki from outside the United States means your information is processed in a jurisdiction with different data-protection rules than your home country.

Your rights

You may:

  • View your contributions at Special:MyContributions
  • Update your email or preferences at Special:Preferences
  • Request account deletion, correction, access, portability, or objection through the privacy contact form. Public edits remain in history under your former username to preserve CC BY-SA attribution; the username can usually be renamed or suppressed on request.

Depending on where you live (California, EEA, UK, Switzerland, and some other US states), you may have additional statutory rights. The wiki may verify your identity before responding. If a concern cannot be resolved with the wiki, EEA and UK residents may lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority.

California residents under 18 who registered contributions may request removal of content they publicly posted; removal from copies made elsewhere on the internet cannot be guaranteed.

Children

The wiki is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.

Service providers

Security

The wiki uses HTTPS, standard MediaWiki authentication, and current security patches. No system is perfectly secure. Report security concerns through the privacy contact form.

Material changes to this policy will be announced on KhmerConnection:Community. Where applicable law requires prior notice or consent, that requirement will be observed.
