Organization
Association Bouddhique Khmère du Kampuchea-Krom
The Association Bouddhique Khmère du Kampuchea-Krom (ABKKK) is a Khmer Krom Buddhist association in Tremblay-en-France, north-east of Paris.[1][2] It serves the Khmer Krom (Kampuchea Krom) community in the Seine-Saint-Denis department and is building a new pagoda, the Pagode Chanraingsey.[2] It is registered as an association cultuelle, a religious association under French law, and has been a member of the Union Bouddhiste de France since 2024.[3][4]
History
The association was founded in 2013. Its creation was announced by the prefecture of Le Raincy in the Journal officiel on September 16, 2013, and a change to its registration followed on February 18, 2014. Its first address was 24 allée du Moulin de Maheux in Tremblay-en-France. On March 19, 2018, it moved to its present address on rue Jules Guesde.[5][6] Its statutes describe it as apolitical. Its sole purpose is the public worship of the Buddha, the teaching of the Buddha's message and practice, and meeting the costs and needs of worship.[5][7]
Pagode Chanraingsey
On May 11, 2025, during Vesak, the festival of the Buddha's birth, awakening and death, the ABKKK invited the city to the laying of the first stone of the future Pagode Chanraingsey in the Vieux-Pays district of Tremblay-en-France. Mayor François Asensi, his first deputy Virginie De Carvalho and Jean-Claude Foye, deputy mayor for community associations, attended.[2]
A pagoda of the same name, Vatt Chanraingsey, was already active at the association's address at the time.[8] Its head monk, Ten Chenda, was among the Buddhist representatives thanked at the inauguration of the KH50 memorial in Lognes on April 17, 2025. The memorial honors the victims of the Khmer Rouge.[9] On June 22, 2025, the pagoda held a Buddhist ceremony of remembrance with nearly 100 people, organized by Accueil Cambodgien with the ABKKK and another association. Accueil Cambodgien named the ABKKK among the groups that supported its 50th anniversary that year.[10]
Community
The ABKKK belongs to the Collectif pour la paix et la solidarité en Asie du Sud-Est, a group of more than ten organizations in France. In August 2025 the collective raised emergency aid for people affected by the crisis at the border between Cambodia and Thailand. On August 17 it held a collection of donations at Vatt Chanraingsey with two Khmer Krom Buddhist associations.[8]
Leadership
As of 2026 the Union Bouddhiste de France directory lists Rémy Tranchard as the person responsible for the association.[1]
Union Bouddhiste de France
The ABKKK joined college B of the Union Bouddhiste de France in 2024 and is listed among its practice centers in the Île-de-France region.[4][11] Other Khmer members of the federation in the Paris region include Wat Khemararam (Créteil), the Association pour le Soutien du Bouddhisme Khmer and the Association bouddhique et culturelle Khmère.[4]
