Wat

Wat Santivana is a Theravada Buddhist temple at 144 Buffam Road in Pelham, Massachusetts, affiliated with the International Community of Khmer Buddhist Monks Center.[1] The body of Samdech Preah Maha Ghosananda is protected and preserved there.[2]

History

Dozens of Cambodian families spent years raising money, giving their labor and planning before Wat Santivana opened in 1999.[3] The temple began in a house in Pelham bought that year with half of the funds the Cambodian community had raised. At first the house was the prayer space and the home of monks, nuns and some elders. Buildings on the property were later renovated, and the barn became a space for community events.[2]

Samdech Preah Maha Ghosananda lived at the temple for a time, cared for by its resident monks.[2] Abbot Maha Pinn Monirath is the temple's teacher.[1] In 2014 a national directory listed the temple with the telephone numbers 413-253-6373 and 413-259-1534.[4]

Religious life

Many Buddhists in the area who are not Cambodian have come to meditation and prayer services at the temple.[2] In 2022 two monks lived at Wat Santivana, and one of them, Poarn Leak, chanted every evening at 5 p.m.[5] A Kathin gathering was scheduled at the International Community of Khmer Buddhist Monks Center for October 19 and 20, 2024.[6]

Associations

International Community Of Khmer Buddhist Monks (associated organization).[7] Organization details: International Community Of Khmer Buddhist Monks.
BuddhaNet explicitly lists this centre as the affiliation of Wat Santivana. Current network governance and relationships to other similarly named branches are not inferred.
