Organization

Wat Ratanaram, also spelled Wat Rattanaram and called Rattanaram Buddhist Temple, is a Theravada Khmer Buddhist temple on Park Street in Bristol, Connecticut, formerly in Newtown.[1][2] It is the temple of the Cambodian Buddhist Society of Connecticut, Inc., and in 2026 it had three monks.[1]

History

In 2011 the temple was known as Rattanaram Temple, and the society used the name Cambodian Buddhist Society of Connecticut State, Inc. It was then at 145 Boggs Hill Road in Newtown, with the telephone number (203) 270-1404. On Sunday, September 25, 2011, the temple held its Pchum Ben ceremony there.[3] In 2014 a national directory still listed it at 145 Boggs Hill Road.[4][5] By 2014 the temple was at 247 Park Street in Bristol, listed as the Cambodian Buddhist Temple with the same telephone number.[6]

In January 2015 the society's new vice president, Veasna Roeun, wrote that it was going through a major restructuring to better serve the community and people who wished to learn about Buddhism.[7]

Religious life

The temple celebrates Khmer New Year.[5] In Bristol it has held a Kathen ceremony, also known as Kathina.[2] On March 27, 2011, it held a ceremony dedicated to Samdech Preah Maha Ghosananda.[5] It has also offered meditation classes and shares videos of its ceremonies and Dhamma talks on its YouTube channel.[2] In 2016 two of its monks spoke Thai and Lao, and the temple said it welcomed everyone.[7]
