Wat Khmer Tepthidaram
Wat Khmer Tepthidaram, the Khmer Buddhist Association-Tepthidaram Temple, is a Khmer Buddhist temple in Surrey, British Columbia.[1] It is a spiritual and cultural center for the local Khmer community, with worship, meditation and community gatherings.[1][2]
History
The temple has been at 10450 140 Street in Surrey since at least 2014.[3][4] In 2016 its contact was Ven. STPL, its telephone number was 604-583-8533 and its website was www.watkhmertepthidaram.org.[2] By 2026 the temple's listed telephone number was 604-584-8470.[1] The temple also keeps a blog under the name Khmer Buddhist Association-Tepthidaram Buddhist Temple, which gives www.khmerbuddhistassociation.org as its website.[5][6]
Religious life
In 2017 the temple's monks and committee held their larger gatherings at the Sullivan's Community Association hall, 6306 152 Street, Surrey. A fundraising ceremony for building the temple took place there on July 1, 2017. Kan Ben (កាន់បិណ្ឌ, Kan Ben), the rotation of food offerings, and Pchum Ben (ភ្ជុំបិណ្ឌ, Pchum Ben), the ancestor food festival, followed on September 30, 2017.[5]
Both days began with worship of the Triple Gem (the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha), the taking of the Five Precepts and chanting by the monks. Members brought food to offer to the monks and to share with one another, and the program ended with Khmer traditional music, dance and performance.[5] At Pchum Ben the congregation made offerings to the monks and nuns keeping the Buddhist Lent, the rainy-season retreat, and dedicated the merit they earned to their dead ancestors.[5] In May 2017 the temple also held a Dhamma preaching for Vesak Bochea.[5]
