Wat
Wat Khmer Santivararam Windsor
Wat Khmer Santivararam Windsor is a Khmer Buddhist temple serving the Windsor area of Ontario, Canada, now on Howard Avenue in LaSalle.[1][2] It is also known as the Cambodian Buddhist Temple of Windsor.
History
The temple was registered as a Canadian charity in 2006, under the number 801349747RR0001.[3] Its earlier website gave its address as 5300 Highway 3 East, Windsor, Ontario, N0R 1K0, with the telephone number 519-737-8940. Worship services were held on Saturdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and twice on Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.[4] A Temple News listing of 2011 gave the same address with the locality Tecumseh, and named Ven. Dhammo T.T. as spiritual director and Ven. Srey Kinthan as vice resident monk.[5][3]
For years the community met in basements, community centers, private homes and other rented spaces. Its last temporary home was a house that it had outgrown. After bidding hard for the property, the community bought a permanent temple on Howard Avenue, near two other religious communities.[1] The 2026 Cambodian Village listing gives the address as 5265 Howard Avenue.[2]
Community
The temple serves a Cambodian community of about 100 families, or some 300 people, and its monks teach Cambodian Buddhism in Windsor. The monk Bunthoeurn Huo came from Cambodia to teach the faith at the temple. Ron Sim, a former vice-president of the temple, later joined its advisory board.[1]
