Wat Khmer India
Wat Khmer India (វត្តកុរុរដ្ឋខេមរារាម) is a Cambodian Theravada Buddhist monastery in Mehrauli, New Delhi, India.[1] Monks from Cambodia live there and lead its ceremonies, offerings, chanting and Dhamma talks.[1]
History
The temple was founded by the Indo-Khmer Theravada Buddhist Society of New Delhi. The society was established in 1991 to teach Theravada Buddhism and to build cultural ties between India and Cambodia.[1]
Religious life
The monastery holds daily guided meditation. A Dharma study group meets every Sunday at 4 p.m. to read the Tipitaka, the Buddhist scriptures, and discuss Buddhist teaching in English and Khmer. Once a month, on the full moon, the monastery holds an overnight meditation retreat with traditional chanting.[1]
In 2025 the Buddhist Lent, or Vassa, the three-month rainy-season retreat, ran from July 11 to October 7. During the retreat the monks stay in the monastery to meditate and study, and lay people make merit, offer food and keep the moral precepts.[1]
Associations
Indo-Khmer Theravada Buddhist Society of New Delhi (associated organization).[2]
The monastery's site names the society, established in 1991, as the founder of the temple.
