Wat
Wat Kampuchea Krom
Wat Kampuchea Krom (វត្ដកម្ពុជាក្រោម), also known as Wat Dhammarangsi (វត្ដធម្មរង្សី), is a Khmer Buddhist temple in Nokesville, Virginia.[1] It serves Khmer Buddhists in the Washington metropolitan area.[2]
History
The temple stood at 10505 Kettle Run Road in Nokesville by 2009.[3] In 2011 Temple News listed it as Wat Kampuchea Krom, Inc., and gave Wat Kampuchea Krom as the temple's original name and Wat Dhammarangsi as its current one.[1][4] At that time Bhikkhu Thirasilo Ut Kim was the chief monk, Thach Kosal chaired the temple committee, and Thach Chan Chheaphirum served as achar, the lay leader of ceremonies. The listing gave the telephone numbers 571-394-1762, 703-593-2174 and 703-594-2174.[1][4] A 2014 directory listed the temple as Wat Khmer Kampuchea Krom.[5]
As of 2024 the temple was building a new temple for worship, cultural events and community gatherings. Donations fund the construction, the upkeep of the current buildings, community programs and cultural events, and educational and spiritual work.[2][6]
Religious life
The temple provides a place of worship for Buddhists in the Washington area. Its stated purpose is to preserve Buddhist and Khmer heritage, keep Khmer cultural traditions and support religious and intellectual growth in the community.[6]
