Wat

Wat Buddhacheya Mongkol (វត្តពុទ្ធជ័យមង្គល) is a Theravada Cambodian Buddhist temple in Woodbridge, Virginia, United States.[1][2] The temple also spells its name Watt Buddhacheya Mongkol.[2]

History

A 2019 listing gives 1980 as the year the temple was established.[3] The temple's published address listings date from 2011 to 2019, and the 2014 directory of Khmer Buddhist temples placed it at 3905 Old Bridge Road.[4] It is incorporated as Watt Buddhacheya Mongkol Inc.[5] The 2026 directory of Cambodian Buddhist temples in the United States recorded three monks at the temple.[1]

Religious life

The temple's stated purpose is to preserve, teach and share the Theravada Buddhist religion and its core principles, along with other cultural activities. Its activities are open to anyone, regardless of age, gender, religion or ethnicity.[3]

On May 14, 2022, two monks from the temple led a blessing ceremony at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art for the exhibition "Revealing Krishna: Journey to Cambodia's Sacred Mountain."[2][6] The ceremony used chanting, the sprinkling of water and set hand gestures to confer protection and good luck.[6]
