Organization

The Seattle-Sihanoukville Sister City Association (SEASIH) is the nonprofit that runs the sister-city relationship between Seattle and Sihanoukville, Cambodia.[1][2] Sihanoukville became Seattle's 21st sister city in 1999.[1] The association works to build understanding of Sihanoukville and Cambodia through cultural, educational, health and business ties between the two cities.[3]

Programs

The association raised funds to build a primary school in a village in Sihanoukville Province and funded a library at a high school in Sihanoukville. It has partnered with medical organizations on outreach in rural towns and coordinated a pen-pal exchange between schools.[1] In Seattle it sponsored an educational forum on Cambodia that covered trade and investment, and it has hosted Cambodian representatives and arranged their meetings with local and state officials.[1] The City of Seattle credits the association with helping develop the Cambodian American community and create opportunities for college students.[1]

Community

The association is a member organization and community partner of the Cambodian American Community Council of Washington (CACCWA).[3][4] Like each of Seattle's sister-city associations, it is a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and its tax listing gives an address in Burien, Washington.[2][5]
