Wat
Nagara Dhamma Temple
The Nagara Dhamma Temple (វត្តនគរធម៌) is a Theravada Khmer Buddhist temple on Lincoln Way in San Francisco, California.[1][2] It is one of several Wat Khmer in the Bay Area, temples that serve as cultural centers for Khmers from Cambodia and Cambodian Americans alike.[3]
History
Published address listings for the temple date from 2011 to 2019. Directory listings give its address as 3225 Lincoln Way, San Francisco, CA 94122, with the telephone number (415) 665-7566.[2][4] The World Buddhist Directory lists the temple as Theravada with a Thai affiliation, under the Thai Bhikkhus Council of USA.[4] In 2026 a directory of Cambodian Buddhist temples in the United States listed two monks there.[1]
Religious life
Each Bay Area Wat Khmer, this temple included, has several Khmer-speaking monks who live at the temple full time. They offer dharma lectures, meditation lessons and boun, blessing ceremonies for all occasions.[3] Marlai Ouch of the Cambodian School of San Francisco encouraged the monks at the temple to start Dharma meditation classes for senior citizens.[5]
Language learning
The temple has hosted the Cambodian School of San Francisco, a Khmer language school that Marlai Ouch founded in 2012. In March 2016 the school held free two-hour Khmer language classes at the temple on Sunday afternoons, for both children and adults.[5]
