Recording

Mr. Khloem Dina and Mr. Chum Net is a 2019 recording from Pursat in which two men tell of life before and during the Khmer Rouge regime.[1] It runs 47 minutes and 4 seconds and is held in the Bophana Center Archive under the title 71. Mr. Khloem Dina and Mr. Chum Net.[1]

About the recording

Chum Net lives in Pursat province. During the Sangkum Reastr Niyum he studied at the elementary level. He later became a monk and studied at Puth Rangsey pagoda, and he left the monkhood before the Khmer Rouge arrived.[1]

Under the regime he was forced to plow and tend cattle. The Khmer Rouge killed his siblings, and he did not live with his parents. He was later evacuated to Boeng Sdok, where he worked as a blacksmith and made bullock carts.[1]

The collection

The archive department of the Bophana Center collects sound recordings, photographs and films linked to Cambodia. Its archivists write a full description of each document so that the database can be searched. Translation into Khmer, English and French is the last step before a document is released to the public.[2] The center has also been developing a smart-device application for learning Khmer Rouge history, which brings together audiovisual material, findings of the ECCC and the voices of Khmer Rouge survivors.[2]

Credits
