M&M Donuts is a Cambodian-owned donut shop at the corner of Euclid and Katella in Anaheim, California.[1][2] It is known for its hot blueberry donuts and for the long lines of cars that form at its drive-thru late at night.[1][2]

History

James and Sandy Ma run the shop together. James grew up working in his family's doughnut shop, Golden Boy in Huntington Beach, and taught Sandy the business.[2] In 2021 Voice of OC wrote that the couple had started M&M Donuts about 18 years earlier; a business listing gives 2004 as its opening year.[2][3] About a decade before 2021, photos and videos shared on Yelp, local news and food blogs made the shop widely known. The two still do the work themselves, with occasional help from a trusted family friend.[2]

Food

The blueberry doughnut is the signature. Sandy Ma is the only one who makes them, every day of the year. She fries each batch of 15 to 20 minutes, turning the doughnuts row by row with wooden chopsticks, while James fills orders, glazes and boxes them.[2] They are meant to be eaten fresh, and they come out hot starting at 9 p.m.[2][4] In a 2022 guide, Jason Luu, co-owner of Class One Donuts in Glendora, called them the "best hot blueberry donuts."[5]

The case also holds raisin rolls, turnovers, filled donuts, chocolate-glazed donuts, cinnamon twists and muffins.[3] Breakfast croissant sandwiches are made to order, and an off-menu sandwich called the Works holds sausage, ham, egg, bacon and cheese, with jalapeños if wanted.[4] The shop also serves fresh orange juice and Cafe de Olla, coffee slow-brewed in a pot with cinnamon.[2]

Visiting

The shop opens early, closes at noon and reopens at 9 p.m. In 2021 its hours were 4 a.m. to noon and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., every day of the week.[2][1] Morning customers are mostly contractors, city workers and early-rising elders.[2] At night service is drive-thru only, and the wait runs from about 20 minutes to two hours depending on the place in line. On one Saturday night in 2021, about 22 cars were in line at 10:30 p.m.[2]
