Organization
Ly Heng
Ly Heng is a family-owned Cambodian restaurant on University Avenue in San Diego, California.[1] It serves Cambodian and Vietnamese food, with Chinese dishes on the menu as well.[2][3] The owner does the cooking, and the small dining room has seven to nine tables.[1]
Food
The menu runs from pho, including rare beef pho, to rice plates and stir-fried noodles.[1] Beef lok lak comes as cubes of beef cooked in a soy and oyster sauce gravy, served with a bowl of beef bone soup.[1] Phnom Penh noodles are offered dry, with the soup and bones on the side, or as a soup.[4] Other dishes include beef satay noodles, wonton noodle soup, Hainanese chicken, salt-and-pepper tofu, stir-fried flat rice noodles and egg rolls.[4][3] The deep-fried salt-and-pepper calamari comes with a house sauce; the menu also includes fried chili jalapeño calamari, rice noodle soups and stir-fries.[1][2] Hoisin sauce, jalapeños and chili are set out on the tables, and there are vegetarian options.[3]
Community
Ly Heng was one of 14 eateries along University Avenue on the first Taste of City Heights culinary walking tour, organized by the City Heights Community Development Corporation.[2] A student reviewer for The Cardinal, a school newspaper, reported that the family planned to expand the business. A senior and regular customer praised its food, its family-friendly setting and its cultural connection.[1]
Visiting
In November 2024, the restaurant offered takeout and accepted credit cards.[5] A small parking lot at the rear holds three or four cars, and there is street parking and a plaza across the street.[3] The entrance, seating and restroom are wheelchair accessible.[6]
