Organization
Hak Heang
Hak Heang is a Cambodian and Chinese restaurant and banquet hall on Anaheim Street in Cambodia Town, Long Beach, California.[1][2] It has long been a Cambodian fixture in the heart of the city, and Khmer families hold their weddings there.[3][4]
The hall
The dining room is a large banquet hall with crystal chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling drapes, across the street from the restaurant Monorom.[5] Its decor is made for wedding receptions, and the room has live fish tanks.[1][2] On weekends singers perform at lunch and dinner, sometimes with jazz covers of Top 40 songs.[1][5]
Food
The long menu mixes Cambodian, Chinese and Cambodian Chinese dishes, from noodle soups and porridge to rice and noodle plates.[6][2] Its soups are made from duck, beef and pork bones simmered for hours. The combination rice noodle soup comes dry, with the broth on the side, and is topped with shrimp, ground pork, fish balls, fish patties, duck and steak. Chinese donuts come for dipping in the broth, and fried pig intestine is served with fish sauce and pickled cabbage.[1]
Meals are served family style. Set menus for a table include beef skewers, curried fish and basil clams sautéed with garlic and chili sauce.[3] The menu also carries seafood mekathang, a stir-fried rice noodle dish, as well as lobster tails, seafood stews and large desserts.[4][5]
Visiting
As of 2024 the restaurant served brunch, lunch and dinner, took reservations and offered takeout, delivery and catering. Beer and wine are served, and there is street parking and a private lot.[2]
