Battambang Oriental Market is a Cambodian and Lao grocery on McCreery Avenue in San Jose, California.[1] It stands in the heart of the city's Cambodian community and serves its Khmer shoppers.[2]

The market

The shelves hold kitchen staples, fresh herbs, specialty vegetables, spices and frozen ingredients for Cambodian cooking, along with rare ingredients.[2] The herbs include fresh, not dried, kaffir lime leaves and Thai basil, and the pantry goods include palm sugar, rice noodles, red curry paste, canned goods and nam pa, a salty fish sauce made from fermented fish that is added to soups. Many products come from Thailand.[3][4][5] The market also sells freshly made Cambodian dishes, among them a spicy papaya salad.[2][3]

Visiting

The store is small and secluded. Parking is free behind the building.[3][4] It is open from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day.[5]
