Organization

The Association of Cambodian Refugees in Minnesota (ACRM) was a mutual assistance association in St. Paul for Cambodian refugees resettling in the Twin Cities.[1][2] It was also known as the Association of Cambodian Refugees in Minnesota and Friends.[3]

History

On March 31, 1981, the association was listed with Koy Chhoeurn as president and an address at 1449 Clarence Street, St. Paul.[1]

By the mid-1990s Chan Chhan Keo was president. In January 1995 the association had a post office box, P.O. Box 6603, in St. Paul. Its work then covered arts and culture and civic and public affairs, and its outreach included festivals.[3]

In 1998 the Council on Asian-Pacific Minnesotans reported that the association had sponsored many refugees to the United States and worked with people in Cambodia. Its main work was helping rural and disabled Cambodians. Chan Chhan Keo was still president, and the association used P.O. Box 16606, St. Paul.[4]

In 2001 and 2005 the association was at 1304 Burr Street, St. Paul, with Punna Vin Koy as its contact.[5][6] In 2014 a national directory of Cambodian American organizations still listed it at P.O. Box 6603.[7]

Mutual assistance

ACRM gave mutual assistance to Cambodian refugees settling in the Twin Cities. In 1997 its main activity was mutual and membership benefit. Its goals were to keep Khmer cultural values, customs and traditions alive; to protect its members and give them material support; to build mutual respect and solidarity; and to send humanitarian aid to Khmer nongovernmental organizations in Cambodia.[2]
