Almée Couture is a Cambodian haute couture house in Phnom Penh, founded in 2024 by the designer Taing Sokhang.[1] It makes handmade gowns with hand embroidery, crystals and beadwork, drawing on traditional Cambodian motifs.[1][2] The house says its aim is to join Cambodian heritage with modern couture and to tell cultural stories through its work.[1]

History

Taing Sokhang had worked in fashion design for more than ten years before founding the house in 2024, and serves as its chief executive and designer.[1] Some coverage of the New York shows credits the designer as "Hang," a short form of Sokhang.[3]

Before its first New York show, the house held a press conference and send-off at Panda Commercial Bank, which it names as a partner.[4] In September 2025 it presented its Spirit of the Forgotten collection at New York Fashion Week, at the Angel Orensanz Foundation on the Art Hearts Fashion schedule, for Spring/Summer 2026.[5][6] Da Vinci Magazine called it "the first-ever Cambodian designer ... to showcase at NYFW."[5] Later that year the house showed the second chapter of the collection at Sanya Bridal Fashion Week in China.[1]

The house returned to New York Fashion Week in September 2026, sharing its runway show with the designers Michael Cinco and Alexis Bong Monsanto.[7][8] After the show the New York State Assembly gave it a citation as a "Fashion Brand of Distinction." The citation praised its clothing as inspired by history, mythology, nature and the beauty of Angkor.[8][9]

Collections

  • Whisper of the Earth, the house's debut couture collection, in nine looks inspired by nature[1]
  • The World Inside Me, eighteen looks joining modern couture with Khmer heritage, among them Golden Romdul Flower and Bayon's Eternal Grace[1]
  • Spirit of the Forgotten, Chapter I, a collection on memory, heritage and rebirth, presented at New York Fashion Week, Spring/Summer 2026; its looks include Dawn at Angkor[1][6]
  • Spirit of the Forgotten, Chapter II, twenty looks on memory and rebirth, presented at Sanya Bridal Fashion Week 2025, China[1]

The house also makes single gowns, such as the Diamond Phoenix and the Rainbow Phoenix, for red carpets, runways and major occasions.[1] The singer Angela Chang wore its gowns on her concert tours in 2024 and 2025, and the singer SK wore a hand-embroidered gown inspired by Angkor Wat.[1]
