Book

A Dozen Delicious Donuts: A Sweet Cambodian-American Story is a children's picture book by Chanda Ouk Wolf, first published in 2024.[1][2] It tells the story of growing up between American and Cambodian cultures, through the donut shops of the Cambodian community in Southern California.[1][3]

About the book

The story begins when the main character's teacher announces a baking contest at school.[1] A grandmother passes a family tradition on to her granddaughter, who then brings it to her American school.[4] The book follows the making of the donuts step by step and recognizes the cultural experiences and donut making that began in Cambodia.[1] Its themes are family, love, resilience and the immigrant journey, and it shows food bringing communities together and traditions shared across generations.[3][5] A bonus recipe for Cambodian donuts is included.[6][7]

Wolf writes and speaks about the Cambodian diaspora in America and is the daughter of genocide survivors.[1][3] She also works in leadership development in higher education.[6]
